Interconnecting Differentiated Networks

چکیده

I examine interconnection decisions of horizontally differentiated firms. I find that previous results that firms do not interconnect enough, based on the finding that consumers always benefit from interconnection, are only half right. In a Hotelling, as opposed to a Cournot, model consumers may suffer from interconnection, and the firms may interconnect when it is not socially optimal (interconnect too much). I also examine the case where two monopolists interconnect to create a post-interconnection duopoly. Counter intuitively, the stronger are the network effects, the less incentive the monopolists have to interconnect. I examine the effects of network externalities on product positioning, and conclude with a model of only some firms interconnecting.

Interconnecting bilayer networks

A typical complex system should be described by a supernetwork or a network of networks, in which the networks are coupled to some other networks. As the first step to understanding the complex systems on such more systematic level, scientists studied interdependent multilayer networks. In this letter, we introduce a new kind of interdependent multilayer networks, i.e., interconnecting networks...

Study on some interconnecting bilayer networks

We present a model, in which some nodes (called interconnecting nodes) in two networks merge and play the roles in both the networks. The model analytic and simulation discussions show a monotonically increasing dependence of interconnecting node topological position difference and a monotonically decreasing dependence of the interconnecting node number on function difference of both networks. ...

A Differentiated Pricing Framework for Improving the Performance of the Elastic Traffics in Data Networks

Rate allocation has become a demanding task in data networks as diversity in users and traffics proliferate. Most commonly used algorithm in end hosts is TCP. This is a loss based scheme therefore it exhibits oscillatory behavior which reduces network performance. Moreover, since the price for all sessions is based on the aggregate throughput, losses that are caused by TCP affect other sessions...

Empirical study on some interconnecting bilayer networks

This manuscript serves as an online supplement of a preprint, which presents a study on a kind of bilayer networks where some nodes (called interconnecting nodes) in two layers merge. A model showing an important general property of the bilayer networks is proposed. Then the analytic discussion of the model is compared with empirical conclusions. We present all the empirical observations in thi...

A Novel Fuzzy Logic Base Scheduling Mechanism for Service Differentiation in IP Networks

Quality of Service (QoS) refers to a set of rules or techniques that help the network administrators use the available network resources optimally to manage the effects of congestion and to treat the applications according to their needs. The differentiated services architecture (DiffServ) allows providing quality of service to users. The major DiffServ premise is that individual flows with sim...
